Demand for better facilities at North Wales railway stations

Holyhead train station

FED-UP rail passengers in North Wales are demanding better facilities at stations.

Toilets, waiting rooms and more information on train times are a top priority.

Lack of parking spaces and bicycle storage were also highlighted in a survey of five rural stations on Anglesey.

Passenger Focus, the rail passenger watchdog, asked passengers their views on what improvements should be made to Llanfairpwll, Bodorgan, T Croes, Rhosneigr and Valley stations as part of planning for the five-year National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP).

Neil Edwards

A MAN died after being punched in a pub car park while on a night out celebrating the birth of his baby.

Witnesses heard a “sickening thud” as Neil Graham Edwards’ head struck the concrete floor. He suffered a fractured skull and died nine days later from a massive brain injury, a jury was told at Mold Crown Court yesterday.

Paul Michael Humphreys, 35, denies manslaughter and assaulting Mr Edward’s brother Wayne in the car park of the Acton Park Hotel in Wrexham on September 26.

Snow grinds North Wales to halt

Snow grinds North Wales to halt

The snow-hit A55 at St Asaph

Daily Post reader Steffan Lewis, stuck on the Glan Conwy to Llanrwst Road, said: “Traffic is moving slowly. Two cars had bumped into each other on the hill near Bodnant Gardens.

“I think they’ve been caught out and left it a bit late before gritting.”

Dozens of schools were shut across the region and thousands of staff working the afternoon shift at Airbus, Broughton were sent home while nightshift workers were advised not to turn up. The company expected to be open today.

There was a spate of accidents across the region with cars skidding in the snow and causing huge tailbacks.

A veteran pilot from Powys has been killed in a plane crash in the United States.

Jim Beaton, 78, from Newtown, was flying a Cessna aircraft from a factory in Kansas to Russia.

It is thought ice built up on the wings and caused the plane to crash into a partially-frozen river near Bangor, Maine, just 43 minutes after take off.

Mr Beaton, who was originally from Scotland, was a former manager of Mid Wales Airport in Welshpool.

Friends said Mr Beaton was a "top professional pilot" who lived for flying.
